BUGS

‘Bugs’ is a project that is about bugs and their ecosystems. But it is also connected to the conservation of the small organisms. In terms of contributing towards the conservation Effort, this was done by not only creating awareness for bugs through photographic material but also through the way that I went about making the work. Particularly by reducing environmental impact by using alternative processes instead of traditional photographic techniques. This helps in making sure I was not making any more personal damage to the bugs' ecosystems while I was conducting the study around how their ecosystems are being impacted by human activity.

The whole project contains a collective of photos that have been printed in various different ways that are less harmful than printing through the machines. Processes include: Anthotypes, using natural dyes and sunlight to bleach a monochromatic image. Chlorophyll prints, utilizing the process of photosynthesis to print photos onto leaves using the sunlight.Cyanotypes, a non-toxic solution that produces a blueprint with a UV light source (sunlight) and only requires water to be fixed.
