West Somerset Railway
Short documentary sequence created in response to a second year university brief around creating a project on factual information.
The West Somerset Railway is a 22 mile heritage railway line in Somerset, running between Bishops Lydeard and minehead. It is also the longest standard gauge independent heritage railway in the United Kingdom
I grew up going on holiday in Somerset, in particular the areas around Dunster and Minehead, and have memories of travelling on the railway. The steam dispersing across the valleys and open fields. The sound of the box-spokes moving the wheels against the tracks with the occasional whistle. The sound of the ocean as you go through Dunster, overlooked by the castle atop the hill. The tracks serving people for the past 165 (2022) years, welcoming holiday goers, transporting iron and acting as public transport.
